Makeup tips for working women

One of the many challenges that working women face is choosing the right makeup while going to work.

Says beauty expert Puja Taluja, "Looking competent and professional is incredibly important in a professional setting. But that doesn't mean you have to sport a barefaced look. It can work wonders if you find the right balance between makeup that makes you look gorgeous and enhances your beauty."

Thus, keep it low-maintenance so that you can do it quickly and easily in the morning.

Prep up your face

If you have clear skin, ditch the foundation. To ensure that your face does not start perspiring, apply a compact. After cleansing your face, apply a sunscreen lotion. Avoid applying too much and just pay attention to the oily areas on your face. Press powder all over your face and neck, with a slightly damp sponge. This helps it to set and last longer.

Further, if you wish to apply foundation, use a water-based one. Just add a drop of water for a lighter coverage. Make sure that the foundation should be close to your natural skin tone.

Brighten your eyes

Says beauty expert Shahnaz Husain, "Line your eyelids with brown or gray eye shadow for a softer effect. Apply loads of mascara to make your eyes look brighter. Make sure that the trick is to keep it simple and subtle, without a heavily made-up look." Comb out your lashes and then apply a second coat of mascara if need be.

Ditch the blush

Do not opt for a blush for work. Try to keep it as simple as possible. You may apply a highlighter if you want your cheeks to look chiseled. But make sure that you do not do anything in excess because it may make you look too alluring during day time.

Keep your lips muted

Try and stick to natural shades for office. Colours that are too bright may make you look over the top. Stick to matte-based lipsticks to help them last longer. A gloss or shimmer based one will fade away with time and you will have to keep applying them. Go for pinks, mauve and nude shades that will complement your skin colour.

Keep these in mind

- Wash your face with a deep cleanser. Do not rub your face after washing, else it will develop red marks.
- Use a tinted moisturiser instead of a foundation or compact for work.
- Use light-coloured eye shadows in light pinks and browns for work. Avoid using liquid eye liners as it consumes time.
- Use water-proof mascara.
- A gentle touch-up is okay before you go in for any meetings.
